LA CROSSE — Bertha J. Sauber, 89, died March 7, 2012 at Kingman Community Hospital.
Born Dec. 19, 1922 in Rush County, she was the daughter of Nicholas and Veronica (Legleiter) Herrman.
A resident of La Crosse for two years, moving from Great Bend, she was a waitress before her retirement. On Feb. 5, 1946 she married Walter A. Jacobs at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in La Crosse. He died on Oct. 15, 1954. On July 8, 1961, she married Lawrence B. Sauber at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Great Bend. He died on Oct. 25, 2002.
Mrs. Sauber was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in La Crosse, 65 Year Member/American Legion Auxiliary in Ellinwood, a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and a 36 year member of Daughters Of Isabella, both in Great Bend, and St. Joseph’s Altar Society in Ellinwood.
Survivors include, a son, Daniel Sauber, Salina; three daughters, Kathy Kaiser, Kingman, Mary Steichen, Lawrence; and Kathleen Asher, Wichita; three brothers, Marvin Herrman, La Crosse; Al Herrman, Great Bend; and Alex Herrman, La Crosse; three sisters, Emma Moeder, Hays; Eleanora Moeder, La Crosse; and Edith Bollig, Great Bend; 17 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter A. Jacobs; her husband, Lawrence B. Sauber; a grandson, Nicholas Steichen; five brothers, Alvin Herrman, Elmer Herrman, Chris Herrman, Kenneth Herrman, and Raymond Herrman; and two sisters, Sister Louise Herrman ASC, and Agnes Herrman.
Funeral services were held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in La Crosse, Kansas, with Father Pascal Klein officiating. Burial was at the La Crosse City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Catholic Charities.
