Betty Lou Reed, 74, died June 22 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Nov. 18, 1938, at Great Bend, the daughter of Carl and Thelma (Morris) Whaley. She married Mills Reed on Oct. 7, 1956, at Mount Pleasant Church in Stafford County. He died July 16, 1994. A Great Bend resident since 1995, coming from Stafford County, she was a homemaker and RSVP volunteer and bus driver.
Mrs. Reed was a member of King United Methodist Church, Great Bend.  She enjoyed craft work and dogs.
Survivors include two sons, Lloyd Reed and his wife Pam of Great Bend, and Mark Reed and his wife Juli of Great Bend; three daughters, Susan Davis and her husband Frank of Whitesboro, Texas, Sara Hames of Great Bend, and Mary Zerr and her husband Mark of Colby; one brother, Richard Whaley and his wife Lou Ann of Albany, Ore.; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, John Reed.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 28, at Bryant Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dick Ogle officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Great Bend. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Barton County Historical Society, in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net.
