LITTLE RIVER — Carl William Henkle, 93, passed away Jan. 16, 2022, at Sandstone Heights Nursing Home in Little River. He was born on Jan. 31, 1928 at Fredonia, Kan., to Clarence and Freida (Christiansen) Henkle. He married Mary Elizabeth Reynolds on Feb. 12, 1950, at Holyrood. She died Oct. 21, 2014.
Carl hauled propane for A-A Propane for many years, he also was a chicken and pig farmer. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend. Carl enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Carl was a United States Navy Veteran obtaining the rank of Seaman Second Class and served during World War II.
Survivors include, two daughters, Carlon White and Sandy Berges and husband Reen all of Great Bend; a son, Bob Henkle and wife Cheryl of Seward 11 grandchildren, Richelle Wellman (Sam), Patrick White (Joanna), Jim Henkle (Angela), Lee Wilburn (Shannon), Shonda Caskey, Bill Crawford (Megan), Joe Crawford (Karla), Christy Meyer (Jeff), Melissa Mead, Jeff Berges (Casey) and Shawndra Harbaugh (Mike); 35 great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mary Henkle; a daughter, Linda Lyman; a sister, Fern Klameth; a grandson, Chad Henkle; a great grandson, Wyatt Henkle and a great granddaughter, Sarah Kemp.
Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, Jan. 21, 2022, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Pastor Adam Wutka presiding and Military Rites conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard. A Private Family Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery North at a later date. Memorials have been designated to the Carl Henkle Expense Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
