Celeste Catherine (Mermis) Vonfeldt 1924 - 2014

ALBERT — Celeste Catherine (Mermis) Vonfeldt, 89, died Jan. 23, at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend. Born Feb. 21, 1924, in Walker, she was the daughter of John A. and Anna (Kisner) Mermis. On Jan. 8, 1946, she married Raymond J. Vonfeldt in Walker. He preceded her in death on April 19, 1997. A long time Albert resident, she was a homemaker. She enjoyed making quilts and was a reading grandma at Albert Elementary School.
Mrs. Vonfeldt was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church and Altar Society, both in Olmitz.
Survivors include two sons, Tom Vonfeldt and wife Nancy of Lincoln, Neb., and Stan Vonfeldt and wife Nancy of Parker, Colo.; three daughters, Mary Snider and husband Jim of Jefferson City, Mo., Charlene Hickey and husband John of Olmitz, and Raeann Zorko and husband Tom of Omaha, Neb.; two brothers, Robert Mermis of Salina, and John Mermis of Saratoga, Calif.; two sisters, Midge Quint of Carbondale, Colo., and Joan VonFeldt of Victoria; eight grandchildren, Kristen Sorth and husband Mike, Jeff Vonfeldt and wife Lisa, Josh Vonfeldt, Jill Diehl and husband Andy, Sonja DeLaRosa and husband Armando, Shannon Schreiner and husband Brian, David Zorko and wife Christina, and Tristan Zorko; eight great-grandchildren, Jack Sorth, Ashlyn Diehl, Cooper Diehl, Deavin DeLaRosa, Rylie DeLaRosa, Shawn Ballinger, Marcus Zorko, and Maci Zorko; three step great-grandchildren, John Schreiner and wife Melanie, Jesse Schreiner and wife Lisa, and Laura Schreiner; and five step great great-grandchildren, Lillian Rageth, Aubrey Schreiner, Olivia Schreiner, Jonah Schreiner, and Liam Schreiner.  Celeste was also blessed with these wonderful friends in Albert, Dona Smith, Elsie Eilts, Gloria Renz, and Elaine Crouse. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Clarence Mermis; one sister, Irene Berens; two step-brothers, Ed Mermis and Alfred Mermis; three step-sisters, Matilda Romme, Mary Dinkel and Annie Koerner; and one step great great-granddaughter, Shelbie Schreiner.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Ann Catholic Church in Olmitz with Father Pascal Klein and Father Ultan Murphy as concelebrants. Burial will follow at St. Ann Catholic Cemetery. Vigil service followed by an Altar Society Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, at St. Ann Catholic Church. Friends may call from 9 a.m. 4 p.m. on Monday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. Memorials are suggested to Harden Hospice or St. Ann Catholic Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
