David L. Hays, 76, died Sept. 13 at Promise Regional Medical Center in Hutchinson. Born June 1, 1935 in Larned, he was the son of William Anderson and Hannah Laura (Daykin) Hays. On July 11, 1959 he married Rosemarie Stamm at Denmark Manor, Penn. She died Aug. 1, 2000. He was a longtime resident of Great Bend, coming from Larned.

Mr. Hays was a United States Army veteran. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and attended the First Church of God in Great Bend, the American Radio League, Gideon’s International, Cheyenne Gun Club, and Optimist Club. He was also a HAM radio operator for more than fifty years and was a marksman. He loved to read.

Survivors include a sister, Lavon Irene Hays Dalby of Williamsburg, Va.; a brother, Eldon Anderson Hays and wife Linda of Larned; sister-in-law Faye (Hays) Gatton of Great Bend; very special friend, Sharon East of Great Bend; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Duane Hays; and a brother-in-law, Harry L. Dalby.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Great Bend with the Rev. Dr. Scott V. Solether and the Rev. Tom Swain officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church, the First Church of God or the Great Bend Public Library, all in care of the funeral home.
