Donald D. "Donnie" Holopirek 1938 - 2011

TIMKEN — Donald D. "Donnie" Holopirek, 72, of Timken, died Jan. 25 at Promise Regional Medical Center in Hutchinson. Born July 27, 1938, in Rush County, he was the son of Ralph and Blanche (Smrcka) Holopirek. On Nov. 15, 1965, he married Frances Herrman at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Timken. A lifelong resident of Rush County he was a farmer, welder and a truck driver for the Rush County Highway Department before his retirement.

Mr. Holopirek was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church and Western Fraternal Life Association Lodge No. 95, both in Timken, and the Knights of Columbus Council 2340 in Liebenthal.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Jay D. Holopirek of La Crosse and James S. Holopirek of Timken; a daughter, Julie Wagner of Rush Center; a brother Marvin Holopirek of La Crosse; a sister Marie Reifschneider of La Crosse; a sister-in-law, Glenna Rose Holopirek of La Crosse; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph Holopirek, Arthur "Bud" Holopirek and Robert "Bob" Holopirek; and four sisters, Neva Stejskal, Dorothy Stejskal, Irene Holopirek and Inez Scheideman.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church in Timken with the Rev. Rene Labrador officiating. Burial will be at the Bohemian National Cemetery in Timken. Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse, where a vigil service and rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Timken Fire Department or the Bohemian National Cemetery in Timken.
