Donald W. "Don" Shorock, 66, died Dec. 2, 2010 at his Great Bend home. He was born June 7, 1944 at Jersey City, New Jersey, the son of Walter and Isobel (McCutcheon) Shorock. He married Nora Jean Doubek July 4, 1976 at Pratt. She survives. A Great Bend resident since 1977, coming from Cunningham, Mr. Shorock was an employment specialist for the state of Kansas. He had also been a social studies teacher and news director at KVGB. He was a member of Noon Lions and was Zone Chairman. He was also a member of Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Lawrence. He was active in hosting the Back Room concert series at the Barton County Arts Council. Don enjoyed photography, and vacationing in Newfoundland. He designed websites for his friends in the folk music industry and many local friends and businesses. He had attended 32 straight Walnut Valley Blue Grass Festivals.

Survivors include his wife, Nora Jean Shorock, of the home; one son, Tom Shorock and wife, Kelly Peterson of Lawrence; two brothers: Col. Paul T. Shorock, ret. and wife Joan of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Eric A. Shorock of Kearny, New Jersey.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials are requested to the Barton County Arts Council in care of Bryant Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net.
