Doris J. Nitzel, 86 years, longtime Great Bend resident, passed away on Thursday evening, Feb. 20, 2014 at the Great Bend Regional Hospital in Great Bend after a brief illness.  Doris was born on Oct. 21, 1927 at Fairbury, Neb. to Moses G. and Grace (Eilts) Williams.  She graduated from Endicott High School at Endicott, Neb. in 1946, and was united in marriage to Robert Dale Nitzel on Feb. 9, 1947 at Endicott.  Doris was an Accounting Clerk for various businesses for many years prior to her retirement.  She was an active volunteer for RSVP, and delivered Meals On Wheels for over 20 years.  Doris loved to garden, knit, and crochet, and was an avid reader. She was a longtime member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Great Ben.
Survivors include two sons:  David D. (Carol) Nitzel of Unionville, Mo., and Stanley L. (Judy) Nitzel of Great Bend; two daughters: Susan A. (Harold) Lewis of Great Bend, and Linda M. (Edwin) Archer of Valley Center; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.  Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, on March 20, 2008, her parents, and one infant brother.
Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 24, at First Church of the Nazarene, Great Bend, with Pastors Josh and Amy Foster officiating.  Cremation will follow with inurnment to take place at a later date at the Fairbury Cemetery in Fairbury, Neb.  Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at Charter Funerals in Great Bend.  The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m.on Sunday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be directed to the Foyer Remodel Project at First Church of the Nazarene, Great Bend, Kansas.  Online condolences may be left for the family and a complete obituary notice may be viewed at http://www.charterfunerals.com/obituary/chgb.
