Dorothy May Schmitt, 77, died Nov. 3, 2016, at her home in Great Bend. Born June 29, 1939, at LaCrosse, she was the daughter of Dan and Katherine (Herdt) Wagner. She married Vernon Schmitt and they later divorced. A Great Bend resident most of her life, coming from Otis, she was a retired secretary for Sunflower Diversified Services.
Mrs. Schmitt was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Women of the ELCA, church choir and monthly daytimers group.
Survivors include two sons, Mark Schmitt and his wife Laura of Great Bend, and Scott Schmitt and his wife Sharon of Great Bend; one daughter, Tracy Jenisch and her husband Jason of Harrisonville, Mo.; one brother, Kenneth Wagner of Anderson, S.C.; nine grandchildren, Chasity Navarro, Terra DeCarolis, Danielle McNutt, Robert Schmitt, Samantha Schmitt, Ryan Schmitt, Tyler Werth, Morgan Werth and Katherine Jenisch; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Elisa Schmitt.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Great Bend with the Reverend Adam Wutka officiating. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials have been established with Sunflower Diversified Services or St. Mark Lutheran Church, in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net
