PARSONS, Kan. ‑ Fern V. Walls, 93, died Sept. 30, 2021, at the Parsons Presbyterian Manor. She was born Sept. 11, 1928, in Topsy, Okla., the daughter of Mark Edward and Velma (West) Barnwell.  She graduated from Jay High School, Jay, Okla. 

On April 17, 1948, she married Charles R. “Jiggs” Walls in Topsy, Okla. He preceded in death on May 17, 2008.

Charles and Fern were residents of Bushton for 50 years before moving to Parsons in 2003.  Fern was active in the Bushton community in many different ways, including being on the City Council for several years.  She worked part-time at the local IGA grocery store, and volunteered at the food bank.  Deep in her faith, Fern was a member of the United Methodist Church where she participated in Bible study and volunteered in numerous ways. She loved to crochet and was noted for her talents in it. Fern was very active at Presbyterian Manor in Parsons. She was a resident member of the Manor’s council, started a walking club, attended church services, won a craft award with her crochet, and made many great friends and was loved by many there.

A loving mother and grandmother, she is survived by her two children: a son, DeWayne Walls of Ellinwood; and a daughter, Brenda Butler and husband Keith of Parsons; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, three step-granddaughters, seven step-great-grandchildren and seven step-great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter, Gail Walls, a daughter-in-law, Geraldine Walls; four sisters and two brothers.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021, at the United Methodist Church, Bushton, with Pastor Diana Webster presiding. Family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until service.  Burial will follow in Bushton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church of Bushton or Harry Hynes Hospice of Coffeyville in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, PO Box 146, Hoisington, KS  67544.
