HOISINGTON — Gary D. Cropp, 81, died Dec. 9, 2016, at Clara Barton Hospital. He was born June 6, 1935, on the farm in Avard, Okla., the son of Earl N. and Bonnie M. (Millsap) Cropp. He graduated from Avard High School, Avard, Okla., and received his Bachelor of Science in Natural Sciences from Northwestern Oklahoma State, Alva, Okla.
On July 23, 1967, he married Virginia M. Baker in Pratt. She preceded him in death on Aug. 24, 2013.
A longtime resident of Barton County, Gary was a farmer and a school teacher. He lived and farmed for many years near Susank, raising wheat and milking cows for 10 years. He retired from teaching in 1997, teaching at Hoisington for the past 20 years, but had also taught in Odin, Susank, and many other places around Kansas before that.
Mr. Cropp was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church in Hoisington.
Survivors include two sons, Robin Kletke and wife Robin Cohen of Seattle, Washington, and Lucas M. Cropp of Hoisington; a brother, Jack Cropp and wife Lyla of Kiowa; a sister, Hazel Duran and husband Jerry of Salina; lots of nieces and nephews; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Patricia Ann Cropp; sister, Clara Fuqua; and brothers John, Rex, and Lee Cropp.
Prayer Vigil will be 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 12, at Concordia Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Mark Lovett presiding. Friends may call 1-8:30 p.m. today, with family to receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Clara Barton Hospital Foundation, in care of the funeral home.
