Gary Eugene Kenyon, 80, passed away Sept. 5, 2021, at Legend Senior Living, Hutchinson. He was born March 28, 1941, in Bogue, Kan. to Ivan and Delena (Conyac) Kenyon. Gary married Nellene Kaye Grose Dec. 27, 1974, in Great Bend.
Gary, a Barton County resident since 1968 coming from Esben, Kan. was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church and enjoyed reading, history, gardening and an expanded variety of woodworking, from wood carving, furniture making, to finish carpentry. A graduate from Fort Hays State University with a Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degrees, Gary taught in Esben, Hoisington and Barton Community College (1970-2003).
Survivors include Nellene Kaye Kenyon, of the home; one son, Derek Kenyon of Kansas City, Mo.; one daughter, Michelle Hayworth and husband Dustin of Augusta; one brother, Alan Kenyon and wife Marlene of Mo.; one sister, Mary “Jolene” Alexander and husband Darwin of Joplin, Mo.; and one grandson, Cooper Hayworth. He was preceded in death by one sister, Marilyn “Kay” Pozas.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10, 2021, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Great Bend, with Father Aneesh Parappanattu presiding. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Vigil service will be at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend. Memorials have been designated to Prince of Peace Parish or Barton Community College Foundation or Wounded Warrior Project, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
