Gayle M. Hopkins Slack, 91, died Jan. 19, 2011, at Sterling House of Great Bend. She was born May 20, 1919, at Happy, Texas, the daughter of Henry and Alice (Edwards) Murdock. She married Arthur Hopkins in 1944. They later divorced. She then married Ethmer Neil Slack in 1992 at Great Bend. He died Feb. 18, 2002.
A homemaker, she was a Great Bend resident for 27 years, coming from Ness City. She was a member of First Church of God.
Survivors include: One son, Dirk Hopkins of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one daughter, Cheryl Rhodes of Snyder, Okla.; 10 grandchildren, Shann Hartman of Virginia Beach, Va., Dana Wilson of Great Bend, Jennifer Harrell of Waskom, Texas, Lauren Olson of Newport, Fla., Hunter Hopkins of Plains, Jason Tynes of Shreveport, La., Nikki Cersovsky of Holcomb, Christian Hopkins of Oklahoma City, Okla., Cade Davenport of McPherson and Jodi Teeter of Windom; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Deborah Hopkins, two brothers, Randall “Sonny” Murdock and Evan Murdock; and one grandson, Brandon McBride.
Graveside Service will be at Ness City Cemetery in Ness City at a later date. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Burial was at Ness City Cemetery, Ness City. Memorials are suggested to the Disabled American Veterans in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
