LUCAS — Gregory Bretz, age 69, passed away on Wednesday Jan. 11, 2023, after a very long and tough battle with cancer at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kan.

Greg was born on Sept. 3, 1953, in Lucas, the son of John Jacob Bretz and Fern Reh Bretz. He graduated high school and went to work for R.E.A. and Midwest Energy.  They moved to Topeka, KS and he worked as a carpenter building houses.  Then later he moved back to Lucas and went to work for the City of Lucas and then Topps Mechanical and later retired.

Greg enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.  He was a hunter, fisherman and an avid birdwatcher.  He was also a member of the Sons of The American Legion Post #267.

He was preceded in death by his father Jake Bretz and mother Fern Reh Bretz. Greg is survived by his two sons, Lee (Robin) Bretz of Great Bend, Kan. and Brent Bretz of Great Bend, Kan; two brothers, Gordon (Cheryl) Bretz of Lucas, Kan., and Gary (LaRee) Bretz of Lucas, Kan.; five grandchildren, Brodie, Braylin, Mackenzie, Korbin and Beau; one great grandchild, Krew.

Celebration of life graveside services will be held on Saturday Jan. 14, 2023, at the Lucas Cemetery in Lucas, Kan. The family has requested memorial contributions be made to the Sons of the American Legion Post #267 and can be sent in care of the mortuary.
