Helen Lucille Sanders Hazen 1938 - 2014

Helen Lucille Sanders Hazen, 75, died Jan. 18 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. Born Sept. 20, 1938 in Great Bend, she was the daughter of Clarence and Catherine (Clawson) Heckens. On Sept. 6, 1958 she married Leon F. Sanders in Great Bend. He died on Jan. 3, 1997. She then married Paul D. Hazen on Jan. 19, 2002 in Great Bend, He died on Dec. 20, 2012. A Great Bend resident since 1975, coming from Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, Utah, she was a Deli Queen for Dillons until her retirement. She loved bingo, slot machines, and Kansas City Chiefs football.
Mrs. Hazen was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Altar Society, life Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, and Women’s Bible Study Group.
Survivors include two sons, Donald W. Sanders of Great Bend, and Daniel Sanders and his wife Jane of Sterling, Colo.; one daughter, Cheryl L. Matas and her husband Rich of Orange, Calif.; three sisters, Mae Brown, Marie Kern, and Joyce Stout, all of Great Bend; one brother, Curtis Clawson of Great Bend; two grandchildren, Douglas W. Moore and Brenton D. Moore, both of Orange, Calif.; two stepsons, Donald “Doc” Hazen and his wife Carol of Fort Meyers, Fla. and Keith Hazen and his wife Beth of Dodge City; and one stepdaughter, Connie Roth and her husband John of Ellinwood. She was preceded in death by one son, Douglas Sanders; one daughter, Linda Sanders; one brother, Ralph Clawson; and one stepdaughter, Sharlene Kay Yager.
Altar Society Rosary will be held at 4 p.m. today at Bryant Funeral Home. Vigil Service will be held at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend with Father Don Bedore officiating. Burial will be at the Great Bend Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Kans for Kids or Hutchinson Hospital Regional Foundation for the benefit of the Oncology Department, in care of the funeral home.
