LARNED — Herbert (Herb) Benton Bowman, 92, passed away Oct. 3, 2023 at Credo Living Center, Hoisington, Kan.
He was born June 11, 1931 in Larned, Kan. the son of Hugh Benton and Velma Myrtle Rice Bowman.
A lifetime area resident, he owned Bo-lan Holstein Farm for 51 years. After graduating from Zook High School and attending Kansas State university, he served in the United States Army. He was active in Larned United Methodist Church, Kansas Holstein Association, and Pawnee County Extension Board.
He is survived by his wife Kathy (Kathleen) Penka. They were married on Sept. 4, 1954 in Arkansas.
Other survivors include, four daughters, Donna Maskus, Hays, Dee (James) Eberwein, Alma, Shelly (Gregg) Sexton, Abilene, and Sharon (Mark) Lessard, Larned; sister, Evelyn Bergmann, Kansas City; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Bowman, Salina; ten grandchildren, Mark Maskus, Matt Maskus, Allen Eberwein, Ben (Jami) Eberwein, Chris Eberwein, Sarah (Jarrod) Bowser, Jamie Sexton, Kathleen (Justin) Schultze, Alex (Seth) Filbert, and Amanda Lessard; 9 great grandchildren, Ellerey and Easton Eberwein, Claire and Cora Bowser, Grant and Royce Schultze and Giles, Layne and Baby Filbert. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Robert (Bob) Bowman; and son-in-law Stan Maskus.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023 at Larned United Methodist Church, Larned, Kan. Visitation is 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, 2023 with family present 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned, Kan. Burial will be in Larned Cemetery, Larned, Kan. with military graveside rites.
