FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Herbert Dean Hoskins, 92, formerly of Great Bend, Kan., died Jan. 12, 2022, at the Mill Vista Assisted Living facility in Highlands Ranch, Colo. He was born March 18, 1929, in Delphos, Kan., to Dale and Elizabeth Hoskins. He married Jeanne Petracek on Oct. 4, 1953, in Jennings, Kan.
Surviving are two sons, Richard Hoskins (wife Karen) of Maricopa, Ariz., and Ronald Hoskins (wife Michelle) of Denver, Colo.; three grandchildren, Lindsay Hoskins of Las Vegas, Nev., Ryan and Emily Hoskins of Denver, Colo.; and one sister, Betty Seglem of Midwest City, Okla. His father, mother and Jeanne proceeded him in death.
Herb grew up in central Kansas graduating from Bennington High School prior to attending Kansas State University where he attained a degree in Agriculture Education. He was an All-American in the long jump and represented Kansas State on the U.S.track and field team in Helsinki, Finland. Herb worked in the electric utility business in Kansas retiring as vice president with the Centel Company. He was also a veteran serving in the army and later in the National Guard where he retired as a Lt. Colonel.
Herb was also active in the Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, Isis Shriners, American Legion and the United Methodist Church.
Herb and Jeanne moved from Great Bend to Fort Collins, Colo. in 1994
The burial will be at the Fort Logan Cemetery in Denver, Colo.
