Homer C. Jake Delaney 1934-2012

Homer C. “Jake” Delaney, 78, died November 29 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.  Born Oct. 18, 1934 at Ness City, he was the son of George Homer and Fern (Libby) Delaney.
He married Darlene Joyce Foos August 24, 1952 at Bazine, Kansas. She died March 17, 2012. In 1960, they moved to Great Bend from Ness City, and lived out their lives in the community. A systems operator for Aquila, he retired in 1999 after forty-five years of service.  He was a member of Grace Community Church, Great Bend, and Tired Iron Club, Kinsley.  He was an avid collector of John Deere tractors and rebuilt cars for his children in his younger days.
Survivors include a son, Daniel Clayton Delaney and his wife Diane of Great Bend; a daughter, Sherlyn D. Delaney-Whited and her husband Tony of Leawood, his mother, Fern Delaney of Ness City; a brother, Gene Delaney and his wife Judy, Ness City; a sister, Sharon Munsch, Ness City, and a brother-in-law, Les Dechant.  He is also survived by four grandchildren: Clay Delaney and his wife Amy of Hutchinson; Matthew Harbaugh of Overland Park; Mark Harbaugh of Leawood; Lindsay Schartz and her husband Darin of Great Bend; three great-grandchildren: Jace Daniel Schartz, Cal Brady Schartz, and Adilynn Leigh Delaney; his dog Roxy; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father; one sister, Shirley Dechant; and one brother-in-law, LeRoy Munsch.
Funeral Service will be held Monday, Dec. 3, at 2:30 p.m. at Grace Community Church in Great Bend with Pastor Jay Beuoy officiating. Interment will be at Ness City Cemetery, Ness City.  Visitation will be from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012 at Bryant Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 2, at the funeral home.  A luncheon will be held at Grace Community Church at 1:00 p.m., Monday, Dec. 3.  Memorials may be made to  Grace Community Church or Jake and Darlene Delaney BCC Athletic Department Memorial, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.  Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net
