J.E. Jim Throckmorton

LARNED/WICHITA — J.E. “Jim” Throckmorton died on Feb. 12 at Reflection Living Homes in Wichita. Jim was born in Garner,Texas on Dec. 25, 1921 to Ed and Stella Keiner Throckmorton.  He graduated from Sam Norwood, Texas in 1938.  He attended barber school in Austin, Texas and later became a barber in the U. S. Navy in Balboa Park in San Diego, Calif.  He later became an employee of Western Union and worked as a teleprinter through out Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico.
After moving to Larned in 1957, he managed and later owned the Oliver’s Shoe Store in Larned and one in Perryton, Texas.  He was a member of the Christian Church in Larned and served as councilman first ward in Larned from 1962-1966 and 1970- 1974.
On Dec. 4, 1943, he married Eileen Bunch at Wewoka, Oklahoma.  She preceded him on February 19, 2011.
He is survived by son, Mark and wife LaRue, of Altadena, Calif.; daughter, Sherrie Davis and husband Dan, Wichita; four granddaughters, Samantha Throckmorton and Brittany Throckmorton, Lindsay Harris and husband Vient, and Brandi Davis and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Morell Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Lundgren presiding.  Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.  Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery.
