Jean Jensen 1927 - 2016

TOPEKA — Jean Jensen, 89, formerly of Ellinwood, died Sunday, April 17, 2016, at the House at Midland Care Hospice. She was born Sept. 7, 1927, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of George and Mary (Glidden) Bowker. Jean married Donald Jensen on April 18, 1946, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They lived the majority of their lives in Ellinwood where they owned and operated Jensen Associates for 57 years. Jean was an avid painter sharing many of her paintings with family and friends.
Mrs. Jensen was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church serving as past Treasurer and was also a member of the Ellinwood Book Club.
She is survived by her children, Josh Jensen of San Diego, Calif., Jon Jensen and his wife Paula, of Topeka, Kristine Weis and her husband George of Richardson, Texas, and Kathryn Jensen of Topeka; a daughter-in-law, Sally Jensen of Great Bend; a brother William Bowker of Riverside, Calif.; six grandchildren, Jennifer Graves, Arianna Shehane, Justin Jensen, Rebekah Jensen, Rachel Jensen, Zachary Jensen; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; a sister, Catherine Bowker; a daughter, Karen Ireland; and a son Jeff Jensen.
Jean will lie in state after 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home in Topeka. The family will receive friends from 4 until 7 p.m. on Wednesday. There will be an additional visitation from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ellinwood. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow in the Lakin Comanche District Cemetery in Ellinwood. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church or Midland Care Hospice sent in care of the funeral home.
