LARNED — John Lytle Shepherd Sr., 70, died on March 31, 2016, at Diversicare of Larned.
Born Feb. 7, 1946, in Larned, he was the son of Samuel Lytle and Thelma Rose (Caro) Shepherd. He graduated from Larned High School, then moved to Denver, then to Wichita, then settled in Kansas City for 10 years. In 1975 he was united in marriage to Darlene Frazier. He was employed at Beloved Toy Factory, the Larned CO-OP, and Larned State Hospital, where he retired after 30 years of employment.
Mr. Shepherd was a member of CME Escue Chapel Church where he served on the trustee and steward board and sang in the Escue Chapel Master’s Men Choir.
Survivors include his wife Darlene; daughter, Dana Nichell Patterson, Olathe; a son, John Lytle Shepherd Jr., Great Bend; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandson; three sisters, Sammie Lea Perkins, Kitty Ann Clark, Billie Jean Broils, all of Larned; two brothers, Bruce Michael, Wichita; and Tommy Eugene Shepherd, Larned; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Elizabeth Arlene Moore and Betty Lou Stubblefield.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned with the Rev. Eddie Cottner presiding. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to the funeral home.
