Joseph Allen “Joe” Hayes, 73, passed away June 1, 2022, at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital in Larned. He was born on May 22, 1949, at Great Bend, to Joseph G. and Edith (Meisner) Hayes. He married Rizalina de Guia on Aug. 19, 1973, in San Antonio, Zambales, Philippines. She died on Sept. 25, 2020.
Coming from Maine in 1990, Joe was a current Great Bend resident. He worked in Bookkeeping & IT at Marmie Motors until he retired in 2021. He enjoyed fellowship and playing cards with his coworkers. He had a passion for rescuing and raising cats. Joe was a retired veteran of the United States Navy obtaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He was a former member of VFW Post #3111.
Survivors include, his daughter, Kelly Dugan and husband Evan of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and two brothers, John Hayes and wife Mary of Charlotte, N.C. and Robert Hayes and wife Kay of Topeka. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rizalina Hayes; and a son, Sean Hayes.
There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on June 10, 2022, at Bryant Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Schumacher presiding, with Military Rites conducted by the United States Navy.
