OLMITZ — Joseph E. Hlavaty, 77, died Jan. 19, 2015, at Locust Grove Village, La Crosse. He was born Nov. 8, 1937, the son of Erwin J. and Clara Elizabeth (Riedel) Hlavaty. He married Justina Maneth Oct. 6, 1958, at La Crosse. A lifetime Olmitz resident, he was a dairy farmer and stockman and also the postmaster for Olmitz for 25 years.
Mr. Hlavaty was a member of the St. Ann Catholic Church, Olmitz; the Knights of Columbus and a past Grand Knight, League of Postmasters, NARFE, and Rural Water District Board for 12 years. He was a member of the Army Reserves. He enjoyed visiting with friends, going to his grandchildren’s events.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Kevin Hlavaty and wife Camie, and Mark Hlavaty and wife Kay, both of Olmitz; two daughters, Nancy Hlavaty of Kansas City, Mo., and Geralyn Wegener and husband Chuck of Olmitz; eight grandchildren, Jenna Hlavaty, Tonya Williams, Amanda Loesch, Ryan Wegener, Chris Ney, Greg Ney, Megan Ney and Michael Hlavaty; and five great-grandchildren, Tucker Loesch, Callie Loesch, Cameron Hunter, Casey Johnson and Logan Williams. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Donald Hlavaty, and a grandson, Tanner Hlavaty.
Mass of Christian Burial with be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Olmitz Vigil service with Knights of Columbus will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the church with officiants Father Anselm Eke and Father Ultan Murphy. Interment will be at St. Ann Cemetery, Olmitz. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.
