LaVera Georgina Boyd

LaVera Georgina Boyd, 82, passed away Jan. 17, 2022, at Medicalodges of Great Bend. She was born on Oct. 23, 1939 at Antonino, Kan., to George and Ottilia (Korbe) Urban. She married Buddy J. Boyd on July 21, 1996, at Great Bend.  He died July 9, 2016.

A longtime Great Bend resident, LaVera worked in the deli department at Dillons for 18 years, GBI for 10 years and sold Avon products as well for more than 50 years. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Altar Society.  She was a talented musician playing the accordion, banjo and piano. 

Survivors include: her children, Brenda Smith and husband Mark of Manhattan, Dean Jacobs and wife Jo of Claflin, Stephanie Jacobs of Great Bend and Michelle Shelton of Salina; a sister, Luella Schuster and husband Verlin of Great Bend; five grandchildren, Brook Gossage, Branden Smith, Alicia Shelton, Amber Shelton and Bo Shelton; 10 great-grandchildren. LaVera was also blessed with children from a blended family, Steve Boyd and wife Mona of Miami, Okla., Rex Boyd and wife Devon of Rockport, Texas, Kiley Boyd of Wichita, Mary Boyd of Lumberton, Texas and Paul Boyd (dec.).; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Buddy Boyd; a brother, Eddie Urban; and a sister, Vernetta Romme. 

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2022 at Bryant Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 3 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 20, 2022, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend with Father Aneesh Parappanattu presiding. Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery. Memorials have been designated to Kindred Hospice, in care of Bryant Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net.
