GALATIA — Leon Arreguin, Jr., 80, died Jan. 17, 2024, at Clara Barton Hospital ER, Hoisington, Kan. He was born on August 28, 1943, in Ft. Lupton, Colo., the son of Leon Arreguin, Sr. and Socorro (Adame) Arreguin.

A skilled welder, Leon worked as a civilian contractor for the government. He worked on many special projects, including boats, airplanes and submarines at locations including, Mare Island Navy Shipyard, Ft. Ord, and Edwards Air Force Base, all in California. Also working at Ft. Riley, Kan., and later retiring from the Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma.

After 12 years together, he married Geneva Palacio on Sept. 13, 1980. They were together for 57 years.

He is survived by his wife, Geneva Arreguin of the home; sons, Ricardo Arreguin of California, Rodney Arreguin of Ottawa, Joseph Arreguin of Topeka, and Andre Arreguin of Hoisington; a stepson, Shawn Anderson of Ottawa; and a brother, John Arreguin of Santa Barbara, Calif.; 22 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Leon “Meco” Arreguin, II.

Per Leon’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no public services. Memorials may be made to Leon Arreguin Jr. Memorial Fund in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, PO Box 146, Hoisington, KS 67544. Notices may viewed and condolences sent at www.nicholsonrickefh.net.
