Lewis Dean Smith 1933 - 2017

Lewis “Dean” Smith, 84, longtime Great Bend resident, passed away at Cherry Village Residential Care in Great Bend early on Sunday morning, July 16, 2017. Dean was born on May 19, 1933, at Logan, to Lawrence E. and Vera M. (Brown) Smith. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict. He had been a resident of Great Bend since the 1960s. He worked as a cable repairman for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for over 30 years, and after his retirement farmed and raised horses, which became a true passion for him.
Dean is survived by two sons, Lawrence (and his wife, Holly) Smith and David (and his wife, Yen) Smith, both of Wichita; three grandsons, Brennan Smith, Evan Smith (and his fiance’ Katelynn), and Tanner Smith, all of Wichita; two step-granddaughters, Lisa Mai and Bella Mai, both of Wichita; three brothers, Don (and his wife, Paula) Smith of Phoenix, Ariz., Gary (and his wife, Chris) Smith of Hoxie, and Dale (and his wife, Gail) Smith of Illinois; one sister, Karen Allen of Hoxie; and several nieces and nephews. His granddaughter, Tess Smith, met Dean in Heaven where we are certain they are already enjoying their time together. Dean was also preceded in death by his parents and one brother Larry Smith.
Cremation has been chosen. No services have been planned at this time. Memorial contributions may be made in care of the family for later designation. Online condolences may be left for the family and a complete obituary may be viewed at www.charterfunerals.com/locations/great-bend.php.
