Lewis E. Stephenson, age 85 years, former Great Bend resident, passed away on Thursday evening, November 26, 2020 at Villa St. Francis Nursing Home in Olathe, Kansas. Lewis was born on October 11, 1935 to Edward A. and Iris (Lewis) Stephenson. He grew up in Bucklin, Kansas and graduated from Bucklin High School in 1953. He later graduated from Kansas Technical Institute in Salina, Kansas with an Associate Degree in Land Surveying. Lewis was united in marriage to Clarabelle E. Rundell on August 7, 1955 at Bucklin, Kansas. He was employed as a Land Surveyor by Wilson & Company Engineering in Salina, Kansas for a number of years and later worked for Evans-Byerly-Hutchins Engineers of Great Bend, Kansas for fifteen years prior to his retirement. He Lewis was a member of Foundry Methodist Church in Great Bend, Kansas and was an active member of the Gideon Society. He was also a life-long member of the Kansas Society of Land Surveyors. He enjoyed watching westerns and World War II movies on television and spending time with family.
Survivors include his wife, Clarabelle E. Stephenson of Olathe, Kansas; five sons: Tim (and his wife Nathalea) Stephenson of Salina, Kansas, Taber (and his wife, Penny) Stephenson of Olathe, Kansas, Tedd (and his wife, Carrie) Stephenson of Montrose, Colorado, Todd (and his wife, Teri) Stephenson of Hutchinson, Kansas, and Tyler (and his wife, Kenna) Stephenson of Lees Summit, Missouri; sixteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, one son Thomas “Tom” Stephenson, one sister Anne Phillips, and one daughter-in-law Carla Drescher.
Cremation has been chosen. A Memorial Service will be held in Great Bend at a later date to be announced with inurnment in the Great Bend Cemetery at Great Bend, Kansas.
