Lorin L. Peter 1926 - 2011

ELLINWOOD — Lorin Peter, 84 , died Nov. 12, 2011, at Ellinwood.
He was born Dec. 22. 1926 in rural Raymond, the son of Albert and Cleda Peter.
He was a farmer and rancher and a veteran of World War II serving in the 2nd Tank Battalion, 2nd Division, United States Marine Corps. He was a part of the first landing forces at Nagasaki, Japan, after the dropping of the atom bomb. He maintained an interest in veteran and Marine affairs and was a participant in the Emporia Veterans Day festivities for many years. He actively followed the activities of his children and grandchildren. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and taught many of his grandchildren how to hunt and fish.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Christ. Hines-Gossman American Legion Post 320, and VFW, all of Ellinwood. He also served on numerous advisory committees for Barton Community College, the Ellinwood school system, his church and other organizations.
He married Thelma Jean Reed Aug. 22, 1949. Their marriage was truly a marriage of partnership and support.
Survivors include the spouse of the home; sons Robert (Julie) Peter, Ellinwood; Rollie Wayne (Sue Ann) Peter, Raymond; and Brad (Vickie) Peter, Hutchinson; seven grandchildren, Lindsay (Dennis) Cox, Kelly (Mason) Fann, Kelli (Slayton) Rous, Cody (Stephanie McNorton, Joey (Erin) Kaufman, Kerrie Brewer, and Roxanne Flores. and 12 great great-grandchildren; sister Jo-Ann (Frank) Kipple, Pueblo, Colo.; brother Mick (Marge) Peter, Tribune; sisters-in-law Maxine Peter and Margaret Peter, Ellinwood. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family all of whom were very important to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Duane Peter and Larry Peter.
A funeral service is scheduled at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, 7th and Fritz Streets, in Ellinwood. Burial will be at the Lakin-Commanche Cemetery in Ellinwood. Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the Hines-Gossman Post 320 Scholarship fund.
