Mark Christopher Lane

HOISINGTON — Mark Christopher Lane, 57, passed away Jan. 1, 2023, at Medicalodges, Great Bend, Kan.  He was born July 1, 1965, in Hoisington, Kan., to Joe D. and Dolores “Lori” (Demel) Lane.

Mark, a 20 plus year resident of McPherson coming from Hoisington, was a dedicated employee of Pfizer, Inc., McPherson, previously working at Fuller Brush Industries and Walmart, both Great Bend. He attended St. John Catholic School, Hoisington, and graduated from Hoisington High School in 1984, where he excelled in Cross Country. Upon high school graduation, Mark graduated from Barton County Community College and Emporia State University.  He enjoyed hunting, bowling (once bowling a perfect game), fishing, playing pitch and cribbage, and above all, spending time with family and friends. Mark was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council #5222, both McPherson, and American Legion Post 24, McPherson, where he generously gave of his time in fund raising for the community. He was a former member of St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church, Hoisington, Prince of Peace Parish, Great Bend, and Knights of Columbus Council #862, Great Bend, and Council #1521, Hoisington.    

Survivors include his mother, Dolores “Lori” Lane, of Hoisington; three brothers, David Lane of Topeka, twin Michael Lane and wife Patti of Hays, and John Lane and wife Jill of Great Bend; two sisters, Lori Keller and husband Kevin of Great Bend, and Joan Schmidt and husband Daniel of Hoisington; 17 nieces and nephews; and 15 great nieces and nephews. Mark was preceded in passing by his father, Joe D. Lane.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 6, 2023, at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church in Hoisington, with Father Terrance Klein presiding. Interment will follow at St. John Catholic Cemetery, Hoisington. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 5, 2023, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, with a Vigil with Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7 p.m. Memorials may be given to Kans for Kids or Clara Barton Foundation (to benefit the Verda Lane Endowment Nursing Scholarship), in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, PO Box 146, Hoisington, KS  67544.
