Mary Louise Garrigues, 86, of Great Bend, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017. She was surrounded by family as Heaven gained an angel. Mary was a passionate woman that was steadfast in her faith and commitment to the Church. She served in various roles with her time spent serving youth giving her the opportunity to spread the love of Jesus and bring others to His unconditional love. As a beacon of God’s love, she volunteered and served others through His church and many organizations, most notably she enjoyed Meals on Wheels, Volunteers in Action and Vacation Bible School. When she was not serving in the church or volunteering, she could often be found in the kitchen pouring her love of food and family into celebratory feasts and her many specialties, such as cinnamon rolls, fruit pies, and dinner rolls, that, according to her family and friends, are legendary.
Mary was born to George and Lela (Smith) Trost on Aug. 25, 1930. She was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend. She is preceded in death by her parents; her “honey” and husband of 38 years, Walter Garrigues; two sisters, Elsie Morgan and Vivian Snavely. She is survived by her sister, Carol (Dewey) Adams; two daughters, Sharon Anglemeyer and Nancy Foos; three grandchildren, Heath (Jamie) Balderston, Mallory Foos, and Angie Foos; four great grandchildren, Dayton Balderston, Syrus Pless, Avery Balderston, and Jackson Haines, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Celebration of Mary’s life will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017, at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend, with Pastor Laurie White officiating. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the family present from 6-8 p.m., Friday, Aug. 18, 2017, at the funeral home.
