Mary Louise Matthews, 73, of Great Bend, died Nov. 23 at her home. She was born Oct. 9, 1937, at Chetopa, the daughter of Henry Clinton and Rosie (Busick) Powell. She married Donald Henry Matthews on Jan. 22, 1957, at Great Bend. She was a homemaker and a former maid for the Holiday Inn. Mrs. Matthews was a Great Bend resident since 1951, coming from Chetopa and Parsons.
She was a member of Heritage Baptist Church, Great Bend, and the Central Kansas Association for the Blind.
Survivors include her husband, Donald Harry Matthews, of the home; four daughters, Marcella White of Great Bend, Joyce Espinosa of Chase, Brenda Matthews of Larned and Linda Krom and husband Don of Bonneville, Wash.; two sisters, Ruth Claphan of Dundee and Jennie Smart of Oklahoma; one brother, Henry Powell of Dundee; 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Powell, and a sister, Rosie May Kirby.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Bryant Funeral Home, with Pastor Ken E. Gray officiant. Interment will be at Eden Valley Cemetery, Seward. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Donations are suggested to a memorial fund for the Central Kansas Association for the Blind, in care of the funeral home.
