HAYS — Monica Lea Brothers, 58, died August 5, 2015, at Via Christi-St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita. Born Aug. 7, 1956, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of Vernon and Melba Jean (Foos) Smith. On Feb. 9, 1976, she married Jimmie Brothers. He died on Nov. 30, 2014. Moving from Los Alamos, N.M., to Hays, she was a homemaker. She grew up in Great Bend and was a graduate of Great Bend High School.
Survivors include two daughters, Melissah Brothers of Hays, and Amanda Brothers of Eagle River, Wis.; her mother, Melba Jean Smith of Hays; one sister, Joanie Young and husband Pat of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and two aunts, Freda Broetzmann of Hays, and Guilia Foos of Perry. She was preceded in death by her father; one brother, Tracey Christopher Smith; and grandparents, H. Lee and Ruth Smith, and Philip P. and Esther Foos.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at Cline’s Mortuary of Hays. A private inurnment at the Larned Cemetery will be held at a later date.
