Orville Lewis Monroe, 87, passed away Aug. 3, 2022, at Country Place Senior Living in Hoisington. He was born Oct. 24, 1934, in Geneseo to John and Amanda (Brandon) Monroe. He married Betty Jean Moulton and they later divorced. He then married Jacquelyn “Jackie” (Brack) Eulert on April 14, 1976, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. 

A longtime area resident, Orville started his career in the oilfield with Raymond Oil right out of high school. He then went on as the production supervisor for Clinton Oil, K&E Drilling, Energy Reserve and the Sterling Oil Company. Orville then left the corporate world and started his own oil production business, Big O, LLC. He was a member of the men’s coffee group and a former member of the American Legion Post #180. Orville served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, obtaining the rank of Sergeant.  

Survivors include, his wife Jackie of the home; his children, Janelle “Jenny” (Monroe) Hejny and husband Daniel of McCamey, Texas, Eileen (Monroe) Wilkinson and husband Bobby of Denison, Texas, Melissa (Eulert) Dickson and husband Tim of Ellinwood, John Eulert of San Diego, Calif. and Bret Eulert (Connie Weber) of Great Bend; eight grandchildren, Rachael Dickson, Jeremy Hejny (Shannon), J.D. Hejny (Whitney), Jessica Brooks (Ron), Christen Cory, Amanda Robbins (Rocky), Josh Cory and Tony Hammond; 17 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Raymond Monroe, John Monroe, Jr., Francis Monroe and Bruce Monroe; and four sisters, Garnet Hicks, Mary Cormeny, Irene Droegemeier and Marguerite Cormeny. 

Visitation will be held from noon to 8 p.m., Monday, Aug. 8, 2022 at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2022, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Chaplain Jeffrey Owen presiding. Interment will be in Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery in Ellinwood with Military Rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been designated to Kindred Hospice or Golden Belt Humane Society, in care of Bryant Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net
