CHESAPEAKE BEACH, Md. — Patricia Giardina Carpenter, 68, died March 2, 2012 in Washington, D.C.
Born Patricia Susan Lane on June 24, 1943 in Hoisington, she was the daughter of Grant and Virginia Lane.
She was a graduate of Hoisington High School. She was formerly married to Tony Giardina in West Linn, Ore. In 1993, she married Bob Carpenter. They had two sons. They lived and worked in Washington, D.C. before moving in 2002 to Chesapeake Beach. A resident of Kansas, Texas, Colorado, Oregon, California and Virginia, she settled in Chesapeake Beach, Md.
While living in Oswego, Ore. in the 1970s and 1980s she worked for U.S. Senator Mark Hatfield (R-OR), Governor Victor Atiyeh, and State Representative Ted Achilles. In 1989, she moved to Washington D.C. where she worked for the Republican National Committee, the Business Industry PAC, the Electronic Industries Alliance and the WISH List (Women in the Senate and House). She owned and operated the event company, Celebrate.
Mrs. Carpenter served as chair of the Oregon Women’s Commission, was president of River Ridge Republican Women, was president of the Dorchester Conference in 1987, headed the Arts Council Calvert County, was president of the Bay Business Group, served as chair of the Calvert County Commission for Women, Vice-Chair of the Calvert Marine Museum, a member of the Tourism Advisory Committee of Calvert County, board member of the Beach Trolley Association, chair of the town of Chesapeake Beach Special Events Committee, and edited the Town of Chesapeake Beach newsletter. She founded the Christmas on the Beaches holiday parade and was a member of the North Beach House and Garden Beaches holiday parade, and was a member of the North Beach House and Garden Club.
Survivors include her husband of 19 years, Bob; two sons, Lane Giardina, Alexandria, Va.; and Matthew Giardina (Lori); two grandsons, Declan and Colin, West Linn, Ore.; two sisters, Nancy Lane, Russell; and Mary Bea Littrell, Washington, D.C.; and a brother, Grant Kevin Lane, Washington, D.C.
A celebration of life will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Rod ‘N’ Reel Restaurant in Chesapeake Beach, Md.
