FRANKTOWN, COLO. — Robert E. Lee Hartman Sr., 88, died Jan. 2 at his rural home Franktown, Colo. Born April 3, 1922, on the family farm in South Bend Township, just south of Great Bend, he was the son of Edgar and Gertrude Wilson Hartman. He attended Barton County schools and was a 1938 graduate of Great Bend High School. He married Dorothy McCosh Petty on Oct. 8, 1948. She preceded him in death on June 20, 1996.
He was a pilot in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include three sons, Robert E. L. Hartman Jr. of rural Franktown, Colo., and Marshall Hartman and Marlow Hartman, both of Aurora, Colo.; a daughter, Lanette Murfield of Denver, Colo.; two stepdaughters, Claudia Petty Mann of Des Moines, Iowa, and Jean Petty Waggle of Cibolo, Texas; and a sister, Marian McGough of Warrenton, Va. He was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Hatfield.
Funeral services were held on Jan. 7 with burial at Fort Logan National Cemetery with military honors.
