JETMORE — Roy Dean Schauvliege, 61, passed away Aug. 9, 2015, at the Rice County District Hospital in Lyons. Born June 16, 1954, in Albuquerque, N.M., he was the son of Clifford Roy and Peggy Speck Schauvliege. A longtime area resident, he was a retired feed mill supervisor for the Co-op in Jetmore. He donated to St. Jude’s Children’s hospital and enjoyed riding his Honda Valkyrie. He especially loved his grandchildren, family and Teri Newman.
Mr. Schauvliege was a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church and the American Legion, both of Jetmore, and he belonged to the National Rifle Association.  He served in the United States Marines.
Survivors include a son, Beau Schauvliege of Dodge City; three daughters, Sierra Schauvliege of Jetmore, Rhiannon Schauvliege of Hutchinson, and Madison Schauvliege of Dodge City; a sister, Cathy Schultz of Michigan; a brother, Perry Schauvliege of Ponca City, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; a stepmom, Edis Schauvliege of Great Bend; three stepsisters, Shawna Hughes of Great Bend, Sandie Switzer-Farmer, and Cherrie Warren, of Denver, Colo.; and one stepbrother, Roger Switzer. He was preceded in death by his parents; and stepfather, Bill Elder.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at the church, with Father Maurice Cummings presiding. Military rites will follow the service at the front of the church. Vigil will be at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Jetmore. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Beckwith Funeral Home in Jetmore. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Legion in Jetmore, in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be left at www.beckwithfuneralhome.com.
