TONGANOXIE - Stephen (Steve) Bernard Keller, 92, Tonganoxie, (formerly of Great Bend) died October 28, 2021, at his home.
Visitation will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Tonganoxie, on November 13, 2021. 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, A rosary will follow with mass of Christian burial at 12:30 pm. Burial will be at Great Bend cemetery and will be announced at a later date.
Steve was born February 21, 1929, in Altoona, PA, the sixth of eight children of Frank and Helen (Porta) Keller. He graduated in 1947 from Altoona Catholic High School. He was united in marriage to Leona M. Kuhn on May 3, 1948 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellis, KS.
He worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for the Barton County Highway Department for 36 years until his retirement in 1991. He and his wife Lonnie bought their first and only house in Great Bend, KS in 1955 and lived there 58 years until 2013. They moved to Tonganoxie in 2013 to be closer to family. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Tonganoxie. Steve was always one to help friends and neighbors with any type of projects they needed help with regardless of the type of task. He was a self-taught wood worker and made many beautiful pieces of furniture for family and friends. Three things he really enjoyed were, storytelling, crossword puzzles and going out to eat. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Rebecca Ann Keller. His wife Leona “Lonnie” Keller preceded him in death on October 5, 2021.
He is survived by three daughters, Yvonne Hoffman (Darel) Crowley, TX, Deborah Allen (Dean), Tonganoxie, Stephanie Thompson (Kirk) Topeka, KS; Granddaughters, Kristen Price, Mandy Schroeppel, Danielle Elliott, Nicole Hinrichsen, Kristina Adams and twelve great-grandchildren; one brother, Ray Keller, Altoona, PA.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, or the Good Shepherd thrift shop, Tonganoxie.
Sacred Heart Church requires masks to be worn at all services.
