Verna Collins 1958-2011

GARDEN CITY — Verna Collins, 53, of Garden City, died Oct. 13, 2011 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born April 7, 1958 in Hays, the daughter of William H. and Irene (Denning) Baker. Verna grew up in Ellinwood, and attended schools there. On Dec. 31, 1977, she married Roger Collins in Ellinwood. Living in various places, they have lived in Garden City since 2000. Verna has worked as a drug and alcohol technician for Technology Two for the last 10 years.
Mrs. Collins was a member of Abate of Kansas. She enjoyed scrapbooking, shopping, motorcycle riding, and flower gardening.
Survivors include her husband Roger Collins of the home; three daughters Christina Thummel and Melisa Collins, both of Garden City, and Stacy Bogle, Fort Worth, Texas; her mother Irene Baker, Garden City; four brothers Gary Mick, Hoisington, Dewayne Mick, St. John, Howard Baker, Great Bend, and Greg Baker, Ellinwood, Kansas; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father William H. Baker.
Vigil service and rosary is scheduled at 7 p.m. Monday at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City.
A funeral mass is scheduled at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City with Father Rene Labrador as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.
The family request memorials given to the Garden City Special Olympics in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
