Virginia L. Champ 1934-2012


LYONS — Virginia L. (Miller) Champ, 78, passed away Nov. 15, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Society in Lyons.
Virginia was born Sept. 2, 1934 at Wichita, the daughter of Samuel and Ruth (Queen) Miller.  
She was united in marriage to John D. Champ, Jr. on April 14, 1962 at Calico Rock, Ark. Virginia lived most of her life in the Great Bend area, where she loved her cats and enjoyed being outdoors doing yardwork. She especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include a son, Rick Thomas, Great Bend; six daughters, Patti Walters, Fruita, Colo.; Yvonne Cabral, Grand Junction, Colo; Teresa and her husband, Robert Smith, Sevierville, Tenn.; Jessica Champ Shearrer, Woodward, Okla.; Christina Champ, Hoisington; and Ginny Boots, Ellsworth; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Eddie Miller, Gilbert, Iowa; and two sisters, Georgie Mead, Great Bend; and Bonnie Woodard, Tulsa, Okla.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John on July 27, 1978, two sons, David Champ and Steven Thomas; four brothers, Larry, Jerry, Marvin, and Manuel; and two sisters, Marilyn and Carolina.
Funeral Services are scheduled at 10 a.m. Monday at Charter Funerals in Great Bend with Reverend Don Paden officiating. Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery.  
Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Virginia L. Champ Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
