ELLINWOOD — Virginia L. Pangburn Bayer, 79, died Oct. 17 at Good Samaritan Center in Lyons. Born Sept. 3, 1931, in Lyons, she was the daughter of Virgil L. Pangburn and Vera P. Misner. She graduated from Sterling College. A lifetime Rice county resident, she was a farm wife, secretary at Conoco Oil Company of Lyons, a former Rice County probate judge and an amateur anthropologist. On Nov. 8, 1953, she married Merrill D. Bayer in Lyons. He died Nov. 13, 2003.
Mrs. Bayer was a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Ellinwood, Eastern Star No. 32 in Lyons, Daughters of the American Revolution and Worthwhile Club in Lyons.
Survivors include two brothers, Donald E. Pangburn of Lyons and Gerould W. Pangburn of Staunton, Va.; four nephews and a niece.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Ellinwood with the Rev. Larry Young officiating. Burial will be at the Lakin Comanche District Cemetery in Ellinwood. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Ellinwood or the Good Samaritan Center in Lyons.
