Wade R. Schartz 1932-2011

GREAT BEND — Wade Robert Schartz, 76, died Thursday, March 17 at his home in Great Bend.
He was born August 18, 1932, at Ellinwood, the son of Tony and Edna (Rickert) Schartz.
Schartz was a lifetime Great Bend resident, also living in Broomfield, Colo, where he worked for Colorado Machinery and Supply. He retired as vice president of Orscheln’s Farm and Home Supply, Great Bend. He started working as store manager at Bailey’s, Hutchinson. He later served as general manager for J and J Distributing.
He married Marilyn McDowell in 1951 at Great Bend and they had eight children. He married Faye Fricks Spon Cain November 16, 1991 at Las Vegas, Nev.
Memberships included the BPO Elks Lodge and Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Wade was an avid golfer and was known as “Ace,” by his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Fricks Schartz, of the home; five sons, Tony “Mac” Schartz, Great Bend; Kyle Schartz and wife, Liz, Great Bend; Tyrone Schartz and wife, Janice, Wichita; Lane Schartz and wife, Cheryl, Spring Hill; and Paul Spon, Springdale, Ark.; four daughters, Cathy Steiner and husband, Dan, Stilwell; Cheri Chaphan, Wichita; Diane Delaney and husband, Dan, Great Bend; Christy (Spon) Dickerman and husband, Ken, Assaria; one brother, Thon Schartz and wife, Myrna, Great Bend; and 26 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie Schartz; a daughter-in-law, Patty Schwartz; a brother, Gary Schartz; a sister, Zita Schartz; and a granddaughter, Kylie Steiner.
A vigil service with rosary is scheduled at 7 p.m. Sunday at Bryant Funeral Home. Visitation is scheduled from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Bryant Funeral Home. A funeral service is scheduled at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Great Bend, with Officiants Father Peter Fernandez and Father Rene Guesnier. Interment will be at Great Bend Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be sent to the Central Kansas Medical Center Foundation to benefit the Heartland Cancer Center or the Barton Community College Foundation, Tony and Edna Schartz Scholarship, in care of the Bryant Funeral Home.
