During the month of May, the Administration tor Community Living (ACL) leads the nation’s observance of Older Americans Month (OAM).

The theme this year is “Powered by Connection.” which recognizes the profound impact that meaningful relationships and social connections have on our health and well-being.

Older Americans stand as the cornerstone of our nation, having laid the foundation for the success of future generations, Across diverse backgrounds and experiences, their perseverance and adaptability serve as a beacon of inspiration, bridging generational divides in our ever-evolving community. Whether it’s a seasoned architect passing down his brick-and-mortar knowledge of the craft to a technologically adept son who can create modernized blueprints, or those sharing wisdom gleaned from a lifetime of experiences. The connections forged across generations propel us forward.

Meaningful relationships and social connections fostered in the community serve as vital pillars supporting mental and emotional well being, providing a sense of belonging and purpose to individuals of all ages. Research consistently demonstrates that strong societies contribute to reduced stress levels, improved immune function. and increased longevity, highlighting the crucial role of community support in promoting overall health.
