Gold Star mothers to be honored
Placeholder Image

Dear Editor,
On September 14, 1940, President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued a proclamation designating the last Sunday in September as Gold Star Mothers Day, honoring mothers who had sons and daughters who gave their lives for their country in world wars.
The president of the United States is “authorized and requested to display the United States flag on all government buildings, and the people of the United States to display the flag on the last Sunday in September, a public expression of the love, sorrow and reverence of the people of the United States for the American Gold Star Mothers”.
Morrison-McFadden VFW Auxiliary 3111 has one Gold Star Mother, Kathryn Saenz of Great Bend.
She will be honored at the Auxiliary meeting on Sept. 27.
Auxiliary President Diana Dornberger requests that all community residents display their American flags today in honor of Gold Star Mothers.
