“Doin’ right ain’t got no end.” — The Outlaw Josey Wales
That quote from the 1976 hit movie depicts the attitude that is seen quite often today.
No matter how much the state gets into our lives, it’s never enough and the statist regulators are never going to be happy — as if taxpayers of this nation should be charged with making them so.
The might be closer to happy if only America would follow Denmark’s lead and considering the state of “health” issues in this culture, that could be coming sooner than later.
Denmark made history this past week by becoming the first nation to initiate taxes on good food.
They initiated a tax of 2.3 percent on saturated fat.
For instance, this means that a typical hamburger in Denmark with now cost an extra 15 cents with that money going to the state.
You have to know that there are Americans who are in hog-heaven over this concept.
And what is really at issue here — please don’t miss this point — is not whether we need more healthy food or not.
Few of us will argue that we need more healthy food.
What is actually at issue is where that decision will be made and whether we need more statism in our land or not.
Do we really need more regulation going on in our daily lives?
Do we actually believe that our nation would be better off by putting more power over our regular daily existence in the hands of people who work for the government?
Pay attention, because you will see this set up as a health issue. It is not.
It is purely the question of whether our regulators or we will chart our future.
If you want more and more control over your life, then by all means, plan to follow the course of Denmark.
They will be happy to have the company — or at least as “happy” as someone can be who has a tax-supported regulator breathing over their shoulder day and night can possibly be.
