There is a lot of talk of making America great again. But, despite all the rhetoric, we all know all politics is local.
In other words, we have to start by making things great again in our own backyards. Now, Barton County has volunteer opportunities to do just that.
Currently, Barton County has openings on the Center for Counseling and Consultation Governing Board, Community Development Advisory Board, Health Advisory Board, Memorial Parks Advisory Committee and the Planning Commission. These groups oversee and advise elected officials and organizations on a wide range of issues that affect the public welfare
“One of the best ways to participate in local government is by serving on a voluntary board, commission or committee,” Barton County Commission Assistant Diana Watson said. “We just need people to serve on the boards.”
These groups oversee and advise elected officials and organizations on a wide range of issues that affect the public welfare. “They also play a vital role in promoting efficient, effective and honest government that functions for all areas of the community.”
The length of the terms these members serve and the number of times they meet varies form group to group. These are all voluntary, uncompensated positions.
But, they are a chance to lend a public voice to discussions and decisions that impact us all.
If we truly want to make our county great, we must consider doing our part.
