Lady Cougars return to practice; Cougars hit hardwood today

The sounds of squeaking shoes and bouncing basketballs could be heard inside Barton Community College’s Kirkman Activity Center late Tuesday afternoon.
Barton’s women’s basketball team returned to the Barton campus on Monday for conditioning, and Barton head women’s coach Darin Spence got right back into it with a full-blown practice on Tuesday. The Lady Cougars are 10-4 entering Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Western Division play, which begins in January.
Barton’s men’s head coach Craig Fletchall, who has guided the Cougars to a 14-0 mark and a No. 7 ranking in the latest National Junior College Athetics Association poll, said some of his players returned on Tuesday and others will return today.
A shootaround for the Barton men was scheduled for today at 2 p.m. at the Panther Athletic Center on the Great Bend High School campus. A regular practice is planned for tonight at Kirkman.
Barton entertains Seward County on Wednesday, Jan. 4, to open Jayhawk Conference play. The women’s game starts at 6 p.m. The men tip off at 8.
