Barton Community College will be hosting the Best Western Angus Inn/Cougar Booster Club Thanksgiving Basketball Classic, starting on Friday and concluding on Saturday.
There will be four men’s and four women’s teams competing — Brown Mackie, Independence, Neosho County and Barton.
Brown Mackie and Independence get things started, with the women’s teams squaring off at 1 p.m. on Friday, followed by the men’s teams at 3.
The Lady Cougars play host to Neosho County at 5:30 p.m. They play Independence on Saturday at 5:30.
“We’re excited,” Lady Cougars head coach Carter Kruger said. “We’ve got a big weekend coming up. If we play well, we feel pretty good about our chances. We at least want to go out and keep getting better.”
The Lady Cougars are led by freshman forward Cheyenne Hedrington, who averages 15.9 points per game. She also averages 7.6 rebounds per game.
Ashton Bruner leads Barton in rebounds with 8.7 per game. The sophomore averages 14.9 points per game.
Brandy Winbush (10.2) and Taylor Mayes (10.1) both have double digits scoring averages.
The Cougars play Neosho County on Friday and Independence on Saturday, both at 7:30 p.m.
Barton’s men are led by Darius Gibson, who averages 18.5 points per game, one of four players averaging in double figures.
Tyler Corley puts up 14.5 points per game, and Isaac Williams averages 12.9 points.
Raheem Johnson nearly averages a double-double with 11.1 points and 9.1 rebounds per game.
Neosho County and Brown Mackie open Saturday’s competition, with the women tipping off at 1 p.m. and the men following at 3.
