The final Jayhawk Conference meet of the fall slate gave Barton an opportunity to sweep through the fall and secure at least a share of the Jayhawk title before spring even begins.
Things didn’t work out the way Coach Doug Kaiser and his Cougar women’s golf team had hoped. Barton missed the opportunity to sweep the fall, losing by a single stroke to host Dodge City.
Dodge City won on its home course with a 559 at Mariah Hills while Barton finished second at 560. Coffeyville was a distant third with a 593.
“We had a chance to sweep things before putting our clubs away for the fall, but it just didn’t happen,” Coach Kaiser said. “We didn’t play well in the wind and cold. Everyone had to deal with the same conditions but we didn’t respond very well.”
Struggling the most in the cold, windy conditions that blew in Thursday afternoon was sophomore standout Peerada Piddon. Piddon shot the worst 18-hole score of her career with a 91. The No. 3 ranked player in the NJCAA was able to bounce back with a 39 Friday, but was only good enough to place her third at the meet.
Dodge City went 1-2 with Orakorn Thirayatorn winning with a 79-37 – 116. Rachanok Rahulpan was second with an 89-39 – 128.
The Cougars did put four golfers in the top 10 with Mackenzie Fabrizius fourth with a 90-46 – 136.
Kendra Jellison finished seventh with a 146, shooting a 99-47. Miranda Kern was ninth with a 148, shooting 101-47.
The fifth Barton scorecard player was Janae Champlin with a 109-55 for a 164. Olivia Neuenswander and Taylor Becker played as individuals. Neuenswander shot a 106-58 for a 166 while Becker shot 118-57 for a 175.
