MESA, Ariz. – At the midway point of the NJCAA Women’s Golf Championships, the Barton Cougars are sitting in 10th place as a team.
Barton, in eighth after day one, fell two spots in the team standings, but is just one stroke out of ninth and within striking distance of eighth.
Daytona State continues to run away with the event, shooting its second straight team total of 289, 1-over par. The Falcons are nearly 40 strokes clear of second place Seminole State (Fla) and almost 70 shots ahead of third place Western Texas.
Daytona Beach has the top three individuals in the tournament, led by Grace St. Germain at 3-under par 141 at the Longbow Golf Course in Mesa, Ariz.
All four Barton golfers were off their first day scores by a few strokes. Mutita Booranakunamanee shot an 84 on day two, giving her a total of 164 at the midway point. This is currently 29th place.
Vilma Efraimsson shot an 88 for a two day score of 173 and Kendra Jellison an 89 for a 176. Efraimsson is in 48th and Jellison 58th place. Lucia Rodriguez Zapico is right behind that duo in 66th with a 181 total after a day two 91.
Mesa is just one stroke ahead of the Cougars with a 693 total in Murray State is sitting eighth with a 686. Iowa Western is on the heels of the Cougars, one stroke back at 695.
Dodge City is in fifth place after two days with a 653 total.
Men’s NJCAA – Barton has just one entrant in the NJCAA Men’s Championships taking place in Lubbock, Texas. Freshman Adrien Bonnet shot an opening round 71 at the Par 72 Rawls Course to sit in a large group tied for 36th.
Joel Dumford and Tom Westenberger both of Iowa Western shot a 6-under 66 to lead the individual standings. Iowa Western is also atop the team leaderboard with an 11-under 277, one stroke better than Indian Hills (Iowa) at 278.
