Barton Community College women’s basketball player Dionne Harris has been named NJCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.  
This honor came a day after being named the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Co-Player of the Week.  
Harris, a sophomore forward from Philadelphia, Penn., averaged a double-double this past week with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Harris was also instrumental in Barton’s 63-61 victory Saturday night over No. 3-ranked Independence by grabbing 11 rebounds, making two steals and scoring 18 of her 23 points in the second half.  
Harris shares the honor with Highland’s Kathryn Thomas.   
Harris began her week in Neosho, Mo., where the Lady Cougars lost a 67-62 decision to Crowder College.  
In that game, Harris scored 15 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and had six steals.
Three days later, Harris scored 12 points and had eight rebounds in limited action due to foul trouble, but still was a significant force to help Barton to a 50-47 victory over Fort Scott.  
In Saturday’s victory over Independence, Harris scored 12 of her 18 second half points in the last eight minutes, 30 seconds to lead the Lady Cougars back from a 10-point second-half deficit.
For the season Harris is averaging 14 points and eight rebounds in leading the Lady Cougars to a 10-4 record heading into the holidays.
Barton is idle until Jan. 4, when they open KJCCC play at home against Seward County.

No. 8 in NJCAA poll
Fresh off a weekend sweep to improve their record to 14-0, the Barton Community College men’s basketball team moved from No. 11 to No. 8 in the latest NJCAA D-I national poll.
Barton, coached by Craig Fletchall, is among nine fellow KJCCC schools either in the top 20 or receiving votes, with six of the nine coming from the West Division.
Fellow West Division school Hutchinson is ranked No. 11 while East Division schools Coffeyville and Kansas City Kansas are ranked No. 6 and 15, respectively.  Seward County, Barton’s next opponent, is receiving votes and stands at 8-2 on the season.
This past weekend in the Best Western Angus Inn Basketball Classic, Barton defeated Fort Scott 71-56 on Friday and Brown Mackie College 85-73 on Saturday.
The Cougars are led by 6-foot-3 freshman guard Algie Key, who averages 18.7 points per game.
Dwayne Brunson, a 6-7 sophomore forward, averages a double-double with 17.6 points and 10.1 rebounds.
